Welcome

Congratulations on the birth of your baby or babies.

This web site aims to offer you information, support and guidance during and after your babies stay in SCBU.

You may be surprised to know that there are over 250 Special Care Baby Units in the UK supporting premature and babies that require special assistance.

‘Around 7% of babies born in the UK are premature’ (Bliss Statistics); however, this is not the only reason a baby may have to be admitted to a SCBU.

Some reasons for admittance to SCBU are:- premature birth, multiple births, low birth weight, low blood sugar, lack of oxygen, difficult/stressful births, infections to name but a few.

The SNAPPIES support group has been set up by a past parent to help offer both past and present parents support, understanding and compassion, something she felt that was missing whilst her baby was in SCBU.

The support group is open to those who have used any SCBU(particularly Frimley Park) regardless of the time frame (i.e. it could have been 10 years ago) and live local to Frimley Park Hospital.

All we ask is that you either wish to receive information and support from past patients, or help support current parents offering support, encouragement and friendship during a difficult time, not only whilst you are in the hospital but when you are home and as your child grows.

Any extra assistance such as helping us raise much needed funds will be greatly appreciated.

Please do get in touch if you can assist in any way.
